Why you don't need 3 estimates for your insurance claim!!!

Making an insurance claim has never been easy, and now, when you make a claim for damage to your home, your insurers dictate how they will handle YOUR claim!

They ignore the fact that it is your home that needs to be returned to normal. Instead they send round either a loss adjuster who will tell you what they are going to pay for or worse, a builder who will do the repairs to the minimum standard he has agreed with your insurers before even seeing your home!

A few years ago you would contact your insurers, fill in a claims form and send in an estimate from the builder or decorator you have always used. You would then wait for your insurers approval but instead they would insist on a 2nd or even 3rd estimate.

Ok, to be fair it made sense to you, but it did add to the hassle of the whole claim when you:

  1. Thumbed the directory for a builder who would do an insurance quote

  2. Take more time off work for an appointment with different builders

  3. Chase them for a quote which never seemed to arrive

  4. Wait for someone in the call centre to approve your work

  5. Send a loss adjuster round to negotiate with you over both the scope and cost of the lowest price!

All the time you lived with the mess and aggravation of the entire claim.

Believe it or not, this didn't work for insurers as more and more policyholders complained.
